Lost!

Pre-int 2 lesson 12 uses Newcastle in England as the scene for the language inputs of the lesson. This lesson does not really discuss Newcastle in particular, but rather gives more attention to the language of giving directions. Yet the clip below can give better additional information about the city than the short reading text that the book provides. It also gives clearer description of what the city is like which can be very useful for students to compare it with other cities they know.

Newcastle - UK

Home Town

Montreal of Canada is discussed in pre-int 2, lesson 11 Home town. Probably only few students, if any, know about the city. The reading text contains some information about the city's three areas. The following clips give further information about the city which might be more effective in showing what the city is like. Seeing is believing!

Best of the best

In pre-int 1, lesson 7 Best of the best, there is a text about Cape Town, South Africa. The reading text gives some valuable information, and exercise, about the city. Yet, the following video clips give even more facts about the city which teachers might want to use to supplement the the text. Teachers can use them as a lead-in to the text.

Jakarta - Life in the capital

The following video clips are in line with pre-int 1, lesson 6 Life in the capital. The clips are excellent models for a project that student might do. Since we are in Bali, I suppose there are a lot of tourist destinations students can exploit for it.

Jakarta in 12 hours

The following clip is better in a way that it gives a perfect example of what students can do for their project.

Life in the capital

I would use these clips for pre-int 1, lesson 6. The videos are relevant (and more interesting) alternatives to the listening activity (2.48) which is about life in two cities.

Hi, my name is Erina, and this is for elllo.org. If someone asks me what the best city is, I'd have to say it's Sapporo. Well, the reason being that unlike many cities in Japan, it's not so crowded and it's not so humid during the summer time but at the same time, the winter time is so beautiful and very clean, and it you love going snow boarding or skiing, we got the best snow ever compared to any place in the world.

Hello, this is Hoa from Vietnam. This is for elllo.org. The question today is ... what is your country's best city? Well, I would say Nha Trang is my favorite place to go in Vietnam because Nha Trang has a very beautiful beach and it has very warm weather throughout the year so that you can swim almost every day and besides there are a lot of outdoor activities like jet skiing or maybe like kayaking so that you can do, you can enjoy it, with your family, with your friends, and it has a lot of fun, and besides, I think there is a new department store with many, many stuff so you can enjoy, you can satisfy your shopping as well furthermore they have ... Nha Trang has a lot of food like traditional food, French food, Italian food, a lot so I think Nha Trang will be the best place if you can come to Vietnam. Please visit. So how about you?
